Each job offer package i.e. CTC should be analyzed based on 12 month period. Remember, Indian financial year starts on 1 April and ends on 31 March on next year.
The total salary that you draw also depends on the number of months you have worked in the current financial year. This is simply because the income tax is calculated for full year and then pro-rated into number of months left in the current financial year.
The company, while negotiating the job offer would share the total package for 12 months. For example. INR 28,00,008, but if you choose a different start date other than April 1, you would receive (earn) lesser money during the year.
The in-hand would pretty much be same for all months immediately followed by your job's 'start month'. We call them 'Next months'.
The primary deductions that each employee (or an individual) would see in their salary slip are:
1. Income Tax
2. Professional Tax (If applicable)
3. Provident Fund (Employee's portion) (Difference between PF, EPF and VPF)
The tax calculation table shows the total taxable income and how we calculated your total yearly tax.
Tax exemptions show the amount of tax exemptions that you are applying for and the amount that is really exempted.
Some states in India does not charge Professional tax. Some examples are Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh etc.
In Maharashtra, the professional tax is 200 per month.
The full form of CTC is Cost To Company. It is a term, which signifies the cost that a company would incur on you as an employee.
The salary and other perquisites (benefits) that your company pays you, are actually cost for them and hence the term. This term is quite prevalent in Indian software companies while making an offer of employment.
